DÉL-MEZŐFÖLD NATURE CONSERVATION AREA
This nature conservation area came into existence on the border of the Tolna and Fejér provinces. Its natural treasures and morphological features are determined by the thick layer of Aeolian soil accumulated during the ice age. Over the millennia, very interesting surface shapes have formed in this region. In the south, sandy alluvium from the Danube River formed grazing lands, marshland meadows and Aeolian barren lands. Significant natural gems are the orchids, the tartar bread plant and the Hittite crocus. The best-known rodent of the area is the protected ground squirrel.
The Animal Colony of Nagydorog presents indigenous Hungarian domestic animals. The petting of animals on the Szenes meadows of Nagydorog is a great experience especially for kindergarten pupils and little children. The programmes can be supplemented with a short walk, bird-watching or bird-ringing demonstration.
